Our ApproachAddiction Treatment Continuum of Care: Inspired Recovery
Making Big Progress By Staying Small
A primary factor in the high success of Minnesota House comes from the fact that we limit ourselves to a capacity of a maximum of 20 residents. Keeping our programs small and private prevents an institutional mind-set from taking hold and offers a more relaxed and welcoming environment. This strategy allows for in-depth assessments which will enable the counsellors to formulate a variety of treatment programmes that suit the individual’s immediate recovery needs.
Our priority is to offer individual support and attention to residents in a welcoming and comfortable environment in which they are not overwhelmed by a large crowd of people. This allows residents to engage with therapy more easily and get to know us and each other better. In a larger centre, a group therapy session can mean 30 people listening to a speaker, which essentially makes you a member of an audience. At Minnesota House a group session is much more of an interactive discussion. This enables residents to better express themselves and have their concerns and opinions be heard. A more open and deeper engagement with group therapy results.
There’s no question that our addiction treatment system helps more people because it moves away from one-size-fits-all approach to recovery, recognising that there are many different paths to recovery. Therapy is based on individual and group work and combines a range of counselling models are combined. All our recovery programmes are underpinned by the 12 steps of the recovery program. Minnesota House Treatment Centre has a focused individual approach to treatment, based on international principles that have been proven to increase success rates. Every patient is different. We base our treatment plans on the patient’s drug of choice, the characteristics of our patients and their associated medical, psychological, social, and vocational problems. We look at age, gender, ethnicity and culture. Matching treatment settings, interventions, and services to an individual’s particular problems and needs is critical to their ultimate success in returning to productive members of a family, the workplace and society. Nobody can fall through the cracks at Minnesota House. We move past treatment compliance to treatment engagement. We pride ourselves in our ability to work with each resident closely, and offer him or her the care, support and treatment they need with compassion and dignity.

Holistic approaches to addiction and alcoholism are of great assistance throughout the stages of recovery. From detoxification to reducing stress and improving mental and physical well-being, the holistic approach of the Minnesota House therapeutic team, play a vital role in regaining personal balance.
For the recovering addict, our holistic approach is accompanied by a professional treatment plan but can be effective well beyond the initial recovery phase. Recent scientific studies have demonstrated dramatically improved success rates with the addition of holistic treatment approaches.
Part of our holistic approach to recovery includes being in nature. Finding a safe, serene and natural environment can refresh the soul and provide the opportunity to pursue whatever form of spirituality moves you. Minnesota House is situated in the picturesque Outeniqua mountains, along the Western Cape’s Garden Route, South Africa.
Whilst we offer primary, extended primary, secondary and aftercare treatment phases for our clients, no time limits are placed on these phases. A more holistic approach to treatment is adopted and each client is treated as an individual and therefore treatment phases are pertinent to that particular client. Minnesota House Treatment Centre does not believe in quick fix solutions to a long term challenge.
Another key element of the service at Minnesota House Treatment Centre is the community aspect of its approach to treatment. By working and living in a community, clients learn more about themselves and how their behaviour impacts on those around them. This community aspect also promotes teamwork and respect for one another’s recovery.
Treatment Facility Attends To Concurrent Disorders (Dual-Diagnosis)
Each customised drug addiction treatment program is guided by an individual treatment plan that addresses co-occurring psychological or psychiatric disorders. Most common mental health issues such as ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), anxiety disorders, and depression are often the cause of self-medication that leads to drug addiction and alcoholism. It would not make sense to treat only the addictive behaviour without addressing the psychological problems causing the drug addiction.
Drug Addiction: Pharmacotherapy Treatments
Even though our primary choice is to end the struggle of drug addiction through abstinence, we realise that for some this may not be possible. What makes Minnesota House Treatment Centre stand out from all other drug rehabs is that we understand there are some that may need further guidance with anti-drug addiction medication. We work with caring physicians, psychiatrists and nurses that will give you compassionate care in a non-judgemental environment. Therefore, we are open and willing to work with you based on your individual needs and where appropriate, work with anti-addiction medications to assist you in controlling cravings that help prevent relapse. Pharmacotherapy treatments can help make things a little easier by taking the focus away from your drug addiction towards your counselling and alternative therapies so that you get better, faster.
Our medical team of addiction professionals are experienced and qualified with the use of anti-drug addiction medication. Our physicians are licensed to prescribe naltrexone methadone, suboxone, and a variety of other anti-addiction medications that have been proven effective in helping to control cravings and prevent relapse. Our clinical team recognize the benefits of pharmacotherapy and want you to get the most out of your individual and group sessions.
Finding new and healthy ways to deal with stress and relax is an important part of drug addiction recovery and we offer a rich recreational program accessible to each resident’s different physical abilities and interests. We organise various seasonal outdoor activities and fitness programs that will heal the body as well as the mind and spirit. Recreational therapy helps getting you back into your past interests, activities and hobbies that was lost during drug addiction.
Our activities will also organise crafting workshops, line dancing, drumming, art therapy, voice movement therapy, and much more so you can get back or reignite that creative spark that was put on hold all during drug addiction. The grounds of Minnesota House Treatment Centre feature a large outside space full of green pastures and a short drive to the ocean that will help you enjoy nature’s beauty that is conducive to rest, relaxation and recovery.
A Commitment To Privacy
We believe that privacy is paramount to successful addiction recovery. Searidge Drug Rehab provides each resident their own private room with full bathroom that give the peace and privacy you need.
We understand it’s important to have your own room to go back to after a long day of therapy and activities. This gives you the opportunity to relax, journal or reflect in peace. But most importantly you can have an undisturbed and restful sleep.
